For Immediate Release Contact: Debbie Rubio/Marcia Robbins Celebrities Race to Raise the Bar for Proceeds to Benefit the Event Wins Airtime on Fox Sports Net Los Angeles (September 8, 2004) – The 18th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon is set for Sunday, An early start at 7:15 a.m. gives competitors plenty of time to complete the ½-mile Pacific Ocean swim, an 18-mile bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway, and ends with a 4-mile scenic run to Point Dume and back. Racers can compete individually or as part of a relay team. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon also serves as the USAT Southwestern Regional Club Championships. This years defending champion is the LA Tri Club. A large number of celebrities and key sports figures participate and spectators are encouraged to come out and cheer for their favorites. Early celebrity confirmations include William H. Macy (Film-Cellular), David Duchovny (Film Connie & Carla), Tate Donovan (The OC) who is defending his 2003 win in our USAT Celebrity Championship, Jon Cryer (Two And A Half Men), Emily Procter (CSI:Miami), Mark Paul Gosselaar (NYPD Blue), Kelli Williams (Medical Investigation) Ingo Rademacher (General Hospital) teen stars & brother and sister Bobby & Ashley Edner along with Ryan Sutter (The Bachelorette). Sports stars include Lori Bowden (Ironman Champion 2002-2003) and Michellie Jones (2000 Triathlon Olympic Silver Medalist-Australia). Competing athletes are encouraged to bring their families and children to participate in the Nautica Tot Trot 50-100 yard dash, which is for kids ages 12 and under. The $10 entry fee and any pledges collected will be donated to the Foundation. The child who collects the most pledges will win a special “Hero” prize. All participating children will receive a Tot Trot race bag, a commemorative race medal and race t-shirt. The Tot Trot takes place on Sunday, September 19th prior to the awards ceremony. This year the “Entertainment Industry Challenge” returns to bring together key figures in Hollywood from top studios, production companies and talent agencies dedicated to raising money for EGPAF. Companies competing for the ultimate award include Disney, William Morris Agency, International Creative Management (ICM) and Dreamworks, among others. The company that raises the most donations for the Foundation will receive the EGPAF Spirit Plaque, with the Studio Cup awarded to the company with the fastest times (individual or relay). Last year’s winner, Disney, single-handedly raised over $55,000 and has been training diligently to defeat any and all challengers this year. Registration is open to all. To register, visit www.nauticamalibutri.com. The fee is $90 for individual entrants and $115 for three-person relay teams. Registration postmarked after August 1st will carry a $10 late fee. Registration will be available, if the event is not sold out, Saturday, September 18, 2004 from 1:00-5:00 PM on site. The race normally sells out at 2,000 participants. All non-USAT members will have to pay $9 for a one-day membership. All participants, including spectators, who pledge a minimum of $100 to help EGPAF ensure a healthier future for children worldwide, will receive entry to an on-site celebrity VIP brunch. A fabulous selection of bagels, pastries, smoothies and omelettes will be donated and coordinated by Moonshadows Malibu and the Sunset Restaurant. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation creates a future of hope for children and families worldwide by eradicating pediatric AIDS, providing care and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS, and accelerating the discovery of new treatments for other serious and life-threatening pediatric illnesses.
