MORE CELEBRITIES AND ATHLETES HEAD TOWARD THE BEACH FOR THE 16TH ANNUAL NAUTICA MALIBU TRIATHLON TO RAISE MONEY TO BENEFIT THE ELIZABETH GLASER PEDIATRIC AIDS FOUNDATION

David James Elliot and Will Ferrell Among Celebrities Competing

Los Angeles, CA (September 3, 2002) – Celebrities and athletes continue to sign up for a good cause at the 16th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, to be held at Zuma Beach in Malibu, CA, on Sunday, September 15, 2002, starting at 7:00 a.m. David James Elliot and Will Ferrell join as competitors along with hundreds of other celebrities and athletes for the annual race. Proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF).

The popularity of this star-studded event continues to grow and is looking to sell out again this year with 2,000 competitors and many more spectators. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon is an entertaining event offering something for everyone. The weekend’s festivities begin on Saturday, September 14th with the sand castle contest beginning at Zuma Beach at 10:00 a.m. Anyone can enter and bring the family out to compete or just watch the competition. The beach expo will take place from 1:00-5:00 p.m. providing booths with clinics scheduled throughout the day with a FunZone for children with face painting and various other activities, and a rock climbing wall provided by event sponsor Arrowhead®.

The Nautica Malibu Triathlon, the USA Triathlon Southwest Regional Club Championship, features a ½-mile Pacific Ocean swim, an 18-mile bike ride along the Pacific Coast Highway and ends with a 4 mile scenic run to Point Dume and back. The race takes place at beautiful Zuma Beach, providing spectacular views for competitors and spectators. Racers have the option to compete individually or as part of a relay team.

All athletes and spectators who raise a minimum of $50 in pledges/donations for EGPAF are invited to join a host of celebrities including long-time Foundation supporters, Kimberly Williams, Ashley Williams, David Chokachi, Tia Mowry, Tamara Mowry, and Jeff Probst in the EGPAF Donor Breakfast Club for a catered brunch from 9:00-11:30AM. Athletes are encouraged to bring their families and children to participate in the Nautica Tot Trot 50-100 yard dash. The $10 entry fee and any pledges collected will be donated to the Foundation. The child who collects the most pledges will win a special Hero prize. All participating children will receive a Tot Trot race bag, a commemorative race medal and race t-shirt. The Tot Trot takes place on Sunday, September 15th prior to the awards ceremony.
